Questioning and Information Gathering Techniques

In this lunchtime lecture Jeff will discuss questioning and information gathering techniques that are crucial to the industry. With discussions around the the Consumer Insurance Act 2012 and the Insurance Act 2015, there will be particular emphasis on using plain English. The session will be fun and interactive with audience participation.

By the end of this session, you will be able to;

  • Raise awareness of the importance of questioning techniques in the insurance industry.
  • Understand the need to properly plan the questioning process and to have a strategy.
  • Identify the different types of questions, methods that can be used and to be aware of their respective advantages and disadvantages.
  • Recognise the importance of understanding a question and responding effectively

Speaker's biography
Jeff Heasman is a former senior liability adjuster with Crawford & Company and has also acted for claimants in litigation at some of the UK’s leading law firms. With many years of industry experience in law and insurance, he has dealt with litigation up to the Court of Appeal in London and handled claims arising from various worldwide jurisdictions.

Jeff is a qualified English language trainer and has taught international negotiation skills to directors and MBA students at a private university in Spain. Jeff has also taught legal and academic English at Swansea University and he is a lecturer in the law of torts, having taught at a private university in Africa where he was Dean of the Faculty of Law. In addition, he frequently provides training on communication skills and insurance law to companies and organisations throughout the world. He
remains closely in touch with the international legal profession by working as a consultant in insurance law for a niche law firm in Istanbul, Turkey.
