RADA ‘Leading in a virtual environment’ masterclass
The Insurance Institute of London (IIL) teamed up with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) to offer a virtual masterclass, to help members lead in the virtual world.
For many leaders, inspiring, informing and influencing their audience through a virtual channel has already been part of their day-to-day working life. However, during the lockdown period, leaders have needed to be on the virtual stage constantly. Authentic performance on a virtual stage, as on any other, demands the aligning of physical, emotional and intellectual states in any one moment.
A leader must use their body, breath, voice, language, presence and movement to move their audience into action. On screen, a leader’s virtual performance is always received close up. This creates a sense of proximity that places increased responsibility on the leader to be flexible and embody the most appropriate modes for their audience. A different focus on physicality therefore becomes hugely important. On screen the nuances of posture, breath, facial expression, vocal tone and perceived changes in emotions are magnified.
In this session, delegates explored their leadership preferences and habits, and expanded their range of leadership performance for the virtual stage.
By the end of this webinar, members will have gained an insight into:
- How to enhance their vocal presence, resonance, and variation
- The skills needed to build trust and connection with their team in a virtual environment
- Flexibility in personal leadership modes, from compassionate, authoritative, to analytical and inspirational
