Introducing the Qualification Mentoring Scheme
Studying towards your Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) or Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning (APFS)? Recently qualified and keen to help others achieve the same?
The IIL initially established a three-year Qualification Mentoring Scheme in 2016 and following the success of the pilot years the continuation of the scheme was approved by the IIL Council.
Studying can be a lonely and confusing experience. It can be daunting to study on top of a busy job and active social life. Some find the array of subjects confusing when it comes to deciding the order in which to take them. Others find the step up from Certificate to Diploma level bigger than they were expecting, and members can also struggle due to lack of employer support. This scheme aims to provide Mentees with motivation, via a peer group, led by a Buddy Mentor - someone who has recently qualified themselves so has fresh first-hand experience of the challenges faced.
Find out more about the scheme from those in the know, including:
- Michael Howard FCII, Chair, Qualification Mentoring Committee (Partner, Wynterhill)
- Dipak Warren ACII, Advocate Mentor (Vice President, Insurance Institute of London)
- Leanna Mailer ACII, Buddy Mentor (Senior Technical Adjuster, Aspen Insurance)
- Kimberley Foster-Powell Dip CII, Mentee (Underwriter, Tindall Riley)
The scheme programme includes several educational, motivational and social events a year, some of which will provide networking opportunities with our 'Advocate Mentors' who hold senior positions in the market. Participants must be members of the Insurance Institute of London and committed for a three year period.
