The Damages Claims Portal

Online event
Wednesday, 08 May 2024
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm (UK time)
    • Jonathan Head, Director, DWF
  • Casualty

In this IIL casualty webinar, Jonathan Head gives an overview of The Damages Claims Portal (DCP), its impact (particularly on their lawyers), and how they can best work with users to make the most of the digitisation of the Court process.

The Damages Claims Portal pilot scheme forms a significant part of a programme of modernisation in the Court service. While termed a 'pilot' it has now been mandatory for lawyers in all 'unspecified' claims in the County Court for almost two years. The concept is an excellent one – an end-to-end online platform, to allow for the commencement and service of court cases; responses by defendants; the sharing of evidence, and preparation of trial bundles. The DCP has, however, been beset with technical and project management problems. The legal profession has an ongoing course of engagement with HMCTS to identify how the system can work well for legal professionals, lay users, court staff and the Judiciary.

Learning objectives:

  • What the DCP can (or is supposed to) do
  • What claims are covered by the DCP
  • How you can work with your lawyers to get the best out of the DCP
