In this IIL interactive cyber & technology webinar, Roddy Priestley and Dan Caplin take participants through a ransomware attack with threat actor negotiation. In this session, participants can learn how to conduct a negotiation with extortionists, and what considerations are at play therein.

The webinar opens with an introduction to a simulated incident scenario, followed by a deep dive into threat actor engagement during which the audience will be taken through the following stages:

  • Strategic considerations – to pay or not to pay? A look at the legal, reputational and commercial considerations behind this decision
  • How to talk to threat actors: walkthrough of how we talk to threat actors, tricks of the trade, how do we secure successful outcomes?
  • Paying ransoms: the 'nuts and bolts' of how this works.

The session is interactive, with various polls/audience engagement, as well as plenty of time for discussion and Q&A.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn the initial steps of threat actor negotiation
  • Gain practical knowledge of the common pitfalls/missteps and how to avoid them
  • Understand the key controls and preparatory steps you can follow to reduce the ransomware risk
