Digital transformation in aviation

Online event
Wednesday, 25 May 2022
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm (UK time)
    • Brian Warszona, UK Cyber Deputy Practice Leader, SVP, Marsh
  • Aviation & Space

In this IIL aviation webinar, Brian Warszona talks about the background and history of changes and implementation of technology into the aviation industry sector.

The aviation industry has seen a significant change in the way business has to be conducted. From a regulatory overhaul on handling records in 2018 to a pandemic and now an ever-changing technological landscape.

Technology has transitioned for several industries, but aviation has been slow to adapt due to critical systems that remain unchanged, some still from the 70’s. As the critical need for updating systems becomes apparent, this has influenced how organisations such as airlines and airports view not only technology implementation, but also the cyber-security behind it.

There are three key changes in technology that need to be discussed:

  • Collection and usage of personally identifiable data such as facial recognition
  • Advanced technology to help speed up booking to landing
  • Complexity of the digital supply chain (i.e. cloud, booking, security, etc.)

All of these changes aim to make our lives and the customers’ lives easier while opening up the door to potential cyber risks to bring down the entire system.

Learning objectives:

  • Technology has changed how we do business
  • Regulatory environment is difficult to navigate
  • Future of technology will bring more complications
