MHI Group is a conglomerate based in Tokyo globally offering diverse products from engineering solutions, electrical equipment and gas turbines to rocket launch services.

MHI is also a leading company of the space industry in Japan, being involved in development and manufacturing of liquid fuelled rockets for nearly half a century. MHI has been the launch vehicle manufacturer and the launch services provider since 2007. H-IIA and H-IIB launch vehicles have delivered a number of missions for Japanese and international customers and the International Space Station. MHI’s greatest strength is its reliability to provide successful and on-time launches, proven by its latest launch record.

MHI is currently developing, in cooperation with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, the H3 Launch Vehicle, as the successor to H-IIA and H-IIB with aims to achieve competitive pricing, greater flexibility for customers and further improving levels of reliability by utilizing technology heritage established by H-IIA and H-IIB.

Answers to why MHI is capable of offering high reliability to the industry lie in its unique quality management established through experience of providing H-IIA and H-IIB launch services. Examples of such quality management include repeated training of engineers and launch operators and two-sigma control of manufacturing trend data. Finally, MHI shared with the audience what MHI values in dealing with technical difficulty for better services through explaining a technical challenge recently experienced.

By the end of this webinar members would have gained an insight into:

  • An overview of MHI Launch Services, including the development status of H3 Launch Vehicle
  • Examples of MHI’s quality management for heavy lift launch vehicle system
  • How MHI overcame anomalies with its own policy of quality management
