Orbex – requirements and insurance challenges when launching satellites from the UK
In this IIL aviation webinar, Jan Skolmli provided an introduction to Orbex and its satellite launch system. He then gave an overview of the history of the company and explained where it fits into the UK Government’s ambitions with respect to the development of indigenous UK satellite launch capability.
Founded in 2015, Orbex is a UK-based private, low-cost orbital launch services company, serving the needs of the small satellite industry. Orbex has developed one of the most advanced, low carbon, high performance micro-launch vehicles in the world. Its advanced launch vehicle means higher reliability, more flexible mission profile types and a regular, scheduled launch service. With headquarters and production facilities in Forres, Scotland and design facilities in Denmark, its European location means shorter supply lines and reduced operational costs.
By the end of this webinar members would have gained an insight into:
- Orbex as a UK satellite launch provider
- What is required to develop a launch system from scratch
- Anticipated insurance challenges and requirements
