Visit to Lakeside Energy from Waste (EfW)
This 2¾ hour CPD visit to Lakeside EFW at Colnbrook, near London Heathrow Airport, offered a behind the scenes look at how a large national total waste management company provides a recycling service, and the insurance issues it faces.
This visit was hosted by Lakeside EFW and Grundon at its Energy From Waste Education Centre at Colnbrook and covered the full recycling process from doorstep collection to finished product.
The visit comprised of a tour of the working site, the main issues facing the waste management industry and the main insurance issues facing that industry (note: that attendees who are pregnant, have vertigo and/or mobility issues will not be allowed on the working site).
During this visit, attendees learned about the different types of waste, collection methods, sorting, conversion, energy from waste, use of the byproduct which is then converted, and the uses therein.
In addition to a site visit, the programme looked at the concerns surrounding the waste industry generally. It also provided details in broad terms the issues surrounding the market for waste risks, placing cover and classes of insurance.
