Visit to McLarens Aviation at London Heathrow Airport
This CPD visit to McLarens Aviation offices at London Heathrow Airport offered a behind the scenes look at how a leading aviation loss adjuster operates. With a backdrop of one of the world's business international airports, the visit also incorporated a briefing on Heathrow airport and the insurance aspects of airport operations.
The visit was hosted by McLarens London based surveyors, all of who have extensive aviation experience. The visit was held at the McLarens Aviation Head Office which is located at World Business Centre One, Heathrow. From 'WBC 1', attendees enjoyed an uninterrupted view over the northern runway and on to the terminals and hangers beyond. The programme for the day was arranged so that the hosts could deliver a brief on the 3pm change of mode from landing to take off on Runway 27 Right.
The visit programme provided a brief on airport operations, pointed out areas of heightened risk and allowed attendees to listen in to air traffic controllers and ground controllers as they directed the multimillion dollar aircraft around this busy airfield. Attendees learnt about the role of the aviation surveyor and the hosts liability adjusters provided a brief on the area of risk and insurance covering ramp operations, talking about the interaction between the airlines, airport authorities and ground handlers. During the visit, the hosts gave examples and explanations of typical insurance claims, how they report to insurance markets and how they manage the complex array of competing priorities.
During the visit members will gain an insight into:
- Operations at Heathrow Airport
- An understanding of the complexity of operations at a major international airport
- An understanding of the role of the aviation loss adjuster, their activities and their interaction with the insurance market
- An understanding of the liability arising from ground operations and the contractual agreements in place to cover handling of aircraft on the ramp
