Looking at the past to look at the future: a journey into insurance history
In association with Aon and the Insurance Museum
Join the YMC for its first event of 2024 - an exploration of insurance's fascinating past and how it is shaping the direction of the industry into the future.
You may work in insurance, but how much of its origins do you really know? And what can the past teach us about the industry sector of today and tomorrow?
We have brought together a panel of experts from the Insurance Museum to discuss these issues and more in an exciting interactive discussion.
Highlights of the event include:
- Reg Brown FCII, Chair of the Insurance Museum, on his beginnings as an East End boy through more than half a century’s career in insurance, to becoming President of the CII and the journey to realising his dream of setting up the Insurance Museum for future generations
- Howard Benge, Director of the Insurance Museum, on the origins of insurance from medieval beginnings to the Great Fire of London and the coffee houses of London, to the glistening towers of EC3 we all know today
- Sarah Begley on the challenges of making history come alive through the use of online galleries and curated digital experiences
- Paul Miller on some of the shockingly weird and wonderful stories and quirks of insurance past and present
Learning objectives:
- Learn about the origins of insurance and what the past can teach us about insurance today
- Hear from museum experts on the challenges of making insurance history come alive in a digital world
- Peculiarities of insurance and unusual market facts
A Q&A session and a networking reception will follow the discussion - please feel free to submit any questions in advance when you book online.
Please note, this session will not be recorded so a playback will not be available for members who do not attend the live event.
