NHS innovation and collaborating with the insurance industry
In this IIL accident lecture Professor Tony Young talked about current and future health trends and the role technology has to play in addressing healthcare needs.
The NHS faces some of the greatest challenges of its 70 year history with a population living longer than ever before and often with multiple chronic conditions. In addition, progress in personalised medicine, advanced technology, digital health, machine learning, connected devices, wearable sensors, point of care diagnostics and more are heralding the dawn of a personalised, democratised health and care revolution with more health related technology available to citizens than ever before. Through the NHS Long Term Plan, the NHS is transforming to meet the growing needs of the population and deliver better care and improved health outcomes with greater cost efficiency. This lecture addressed how the NHS is rising to meet this challenge and delivering excellent care across the system now and in the future.
By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:
- The challenges facing commissioners and providers of healthcare
- How the NHS is addressing these challenges
- The opportunities for insurers in this technology driven healthcare revolution
