Developing future leaders

Insurance Institute of London - Consilium
Monday, 06 January 2020
1:10 pm – 1:55 pm (UK time)
    • Adam Owen DipPFS, Certs CII (MP & ER), Curriculum and Training Director, NextGen Planners (and PFS President)
  • Financial Planning

In this IIL financial services lecture Adam Owen talked about the key events that have led the current succession gap in the profession and explained what can be done to address this.

Over the next ten years we will see many stalwarts of the profession taking a step back as the inexorable march to retirement continues. We are seeing many new entrants to the profession and there is more focus than ever in supporting career development and recruiting new talent with initiatives like the CII Aspire apprenticeship programme. As a profession, we will now need to support the next generation as they make the transition into senior management and leadership positions. This lecture discussed the demographic challenges facing the profession and considered why the current skills gap has occurred and what can be done to address it.

By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:

  • Why the profession needs to bridge the succession gap
  • Ways in which firms and individuals can support future leaders
