Climate changes and natural catastrophe risk
In this IIL reinsurance lecture Craig Tillman spoke on climate change and how it is an important consideration in the management of natural catastrophe risk. In his lecture, Craig surveyed survey perils that are impacted by climate change, now and in the future and provided an insight into how this might change risk management approaches.
Craig spoke on current and future changes to catastrophe risk that are important to understand in the context of climate change. Global signals of the increasing pace of climate change are clear; how those signals translate into changes to catastrophe risk is nuanced on a region/peril basis. This lecture surveyed present effects of global warming on a range of perils and discuss future changes that are expected to exacerbate the risk of natural catastrophes. Concepts important to balancing the uncertainty in climate change impact forecasts will be discussed, providing a basis for more robust risk management practice in the face of climate change.
By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:
- Global climate change
- Forecast uncertainty
- Regional impacts by peril, now and in the future
