Aviation skills shortage
In this IIL aviation lecture Stuart Fox explained what the industry is doing to address aviation skills gaps.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecast a doubling of air passengers in the next 20 years that could support 100 million jobs globally. In this context, the aviation industry, in its all, needs enough and competent staff to enable sustainable growth.
As there is an obvious link between the competence of the personnel and the safety in operations, IATA as the airline association, has included the 'Skilled Staff item' as one of its top ten strategic priorities.
This lecture provided insights on how IATA is already supporting its members and the aviation industry to address the challenge of the competence of the personnel in the context of unprecedented growth.
By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:
- The methodology IATA has used to determine the aviation skills shortage
- The results of our global survey
- The mitigation measures that will be used to help mitigate an aviation skills shortage
Chair:
Elizabeth Holton, IATA.
