Driverless cars - the future of road transport and the implications for insurance
In this IIL claims lecture David Williams looked at the future of Connected & Autonomous Vehicles (CAV's), 'driverless cars' and explained why insurers were involved. His presentation covered how the UK insurance industry was responding to the challenge of Autonomous Vehicles and the changing risk environment.
In his presentation, David started by providing a background to CAV’s; what they were, their technological development, growth and why insurance was so heavily involved. He gave a background to the Government backed consortia and why insurers were involved in these to influence change. David also covered the Consortium Project Prospectus and the 4T’s (Transport, Testing, Time and Trust).
By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:
- Understanding details of the Governments work with regard to making Connected & Autonomous Vehicles (CAV's) a reality for the UK
- Possible impacts of CAV's on the current insurance market, including changes to Motor and Public/Products Liability Insurance and Legislation
- Aspects of the changing risk profile and seeing how the UK insurance industry is responding
