In this IIL marine & energy lecture Paul Harcombe talked about the expansion of the Panama Canal and some of the issues relating to the expansion and how the new expanding canal is impacting global trade routes.

Paul explained how the Panama Canal has long been a vital part of world shipping trade and how over the years it has tried to address the ever-changing needs of the global shipping industry. From its early days to the recent completion of the new locks the Canal has provided essential services to the shipping industry. In his lecture, Paul's objective was to give the audience a feel for the Canal - its operations and its effect on world shipping.

By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:

  • The history and development of the Panama Canal
  • The Expansion Project of the new locks
  • The impact on world trade

Speaker Bio:
Paul has spent over 35 years in the marine market getting involved in all aspect of marine insurance. He has had responsibility for the Panama Canal's insurance program since September 2009.

Registration & Security

CPD events are open to CII and PFS members
Registration closes at 12pm two working days before the event date
For events held in The Old Library, Lloyd's pass holders may also attend and do not need to register
Original Photo ID (Driving Licence, Passport, Work ID with company logo and full name) is required to gain entry to all venues

Conditions:

  • Email confirmations and original photo ID must be produced to security staff at the lecture venue
  • Attendance confirmations are non-transferable to any other person or lecture
  • All venues have limited capacity and registration and/or a Lloyd's pass does not guarantee admission
