Hanjin a year on: game changer or storm in a teacup?

The Old Library, Lloyd's
Tuesday, 10 October 2017
1:15 pm – 2:00 pm (UK time)
    • Mike Roderick, Partner, Clyde & Co LLP
  • Marine & Energy

In this IIL marine & energy lecture Mike Roderick talked about the insurance issues relating to Hanjin's insolvency, how the shipping and insurance markets have reacted and what lessons can be learned for business going forward.

Mike explained that when Hanjin first slid into insolvency there were widespread fears of a major impact on the marine insurance industry. In the months since then Mike looked at how the shipping and insurance markets have reacted, what other economic factors have come into play, how serious the impact has in fact been on the marine insurance market and how serious a risk a similar major container line collapse might be in the future.

By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:

  • The marine insurance issues relating to Hanjin's insolvency
  • The lessons that can be drawn for business moving forward
  • The potential risks associated with a major container line default in future
