The Old Library, Lloyd's
Thursday, 16 November 2017
1:15 pm – 2:00 pm (UK time)
    • Kurt Karl, Chief Economist, Swiss Re
  • Reinsurance

In this IIL reinsurance lecture Kurt Karl will provide an outlook on the global economy and its implications for the insurance industry. He covered global monetary policy, interest rates and political developments.

In his presentation, Dr Karl referred to global economic activity accelerating modestly, with Europe, the US, China and Japan all participating. However, the notable exception is the UK, which is facing unprecedented uncertainty on the political and trade relation fronts. In his lecture, Dr Karl looked at what political developments are likely to shape economic activity over the next 18 months; how monetary policy will affect investment decisions; and how these developments will affect the insurance industry.

By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:

  • The economic outlook for the global economy and the UK

  • The implications of economic activity and monetary policy for the insurance industry
