"You do what?!" Emergency response in aviation
In this IIL Aviation lecture Abigail Pollard provided an insight into what is involved in the response to an aircraft accident drawing on her experiences with incidents from around the world.
In her presentation, Abigail explained that while for many people, the aftermath of an aircraft incident lasts as long as the incident is being reported in the media, the reality can be quite different for those involved.
There are many things to be considered during the response to an aviation incident with every incident being different. However, Abigail briefly covered some common factors such as Incident Management, Public Information Centre, Media & Social Media, transportation and access to site and working with the authorities, families & friends and the survivors.
By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:
- Things to be considered when responding to an aircraft incident
- The role of the emergency response service provider
- What companies can do now to prepare for an incident and how we can support them
