3D printing and product liability issues

In this IIL accident lecture Ingrid Hobbs explained the concept of additive manufacturing, which encompasses 3D printing, and will look at how it is being embraced by a range of manufacturing industries.

Ingrid discussed its benefits and perceived risks considering, in particular, its potential impact across various classes of insurance. The lecture provided examples of how the technology is being used and provided an insight into some of the legal and regulatory questions raised such as the impact on IP, product liability law, and health and environmental aspects.

By the end of this lecture members will have gained an insight into:

  • Concept of additive manufacturing
  • Employment of this technology
  • Benefits, risks, and the implications for the insurance industry

CPD events are open to CII and PFS members
Registration closes at 12pm two working days before the event date
For events held in The Old Library, Lloyd's pass holders may also attend and do not need to register
Original Photo ID (Driving Licence, Passport, Work ID with company logo and full name) is required to gain entry to all venues

  • Email confirmations and original photo ID must be produced to security staff at the lecture venue
  • Attendance confirmations are non-transferable to any other person or lecture
  • All venues have limited capacity and registration and/or a Lloyd's pass does not guarantee admission
