3D printing and product liability issues
In this IIL accident lecture Ingrid Hobbs explained the concept of additive manufacturing, which encompasses 3D printing, and will look at how it is being embraced by a range of manufacturing industries.
Ingrid discussed its benefits and perceived risks considering, in particular, its potential impact across various classes of insurance. The lecture provided examples of how the technology is being used and provided an insight into some of the legal and regulatory questions raised such as the impact on IP, product liability law, and health and environmental aspects.
By the end of this lecture members will have gained an insight into:
- Concept of additive manufacturing
- Employment of this technology
- Benefits, risks, and the implications for the insurance industry
