CPD podcast »

In this IIL aviation lecture James Hatch reviewed the cyber security risk within the aviation sector, its likely evolution and the implications for cyber insurance.

James explained that the aviation industry was subject to challenging profit margins and high safety requirements and its participants are dependent on heavily interconnected systems to ensure they continue to operate efficiently. These factors mean that the sector is vulnerable to the continuing escalation and evolution of cyber attacks - particularly if it came to be targeted more directly. As insurance is seen as an important element in organisation's cyber risk management strategy, it is important to understand how these risks are likely to play out in practice.

By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:

  • The cyber risks facing the aviation sector
  • How these risks are likely to evolve in the coming years
  • Implications for the use of insurance for cyber risk management

Speakers Bio:
James leads the UK-based BAE Systems advisory and delivery services in cyber security. This business covers all industry sectors but with a particularly strong presence in financial services, communications, transport and central government.

Chair: Liz Holton, IATA.
