So you want to be a CEO? Meet the big bosses: an audience with Hearn & Hester
In this Insurance Institute of London lecture Stephen Hester discusses the seven personal qualities often found in CEOs and which aspiring CEOs should inherently have, or should aim to develop. Using practical examples to illustrate each attribute, Stephen identifies those qualities as: intelligence, drive, focus, communication skills, achievement, “seeing the bigger picture” and self awareness. Stephen believes that we should aim to accomplish fulfilment and happiness but how that is defined is unique to each individual.
Steve Hearn explains how he reached his current position. He talks about the need to be disciplined; the benefits of having a strong team and the value of personal reputation.
By the end of this lecture members will have gained an insight into how to become a CEO including:
- the personal characteristics that tend to be shared by CEOs
- building experience through different roles at an early stage
- how career progression can be achieved with drive
