Lunchtime Webinar - Escapes of Water and Engineering Failures

Northampton Insurance Institute are delighted to welcome Simon Batt Meng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering CEng FIMechEIt of Hawkins & Associates Forensic Scientists to present a technical lunchtime webinar on escapes of water and engineering failures, covering common causes, practical advice in handling claims and preserving evidence and providing case studies from his own experience.
This technical session will help attendees understand why we investigate these type of claims, offer practical advice on dealing with the claims emanating from escape of water and engineering failure incidents and discuss how and why physical evidence is preserved.
Biography
Simon Batt Meng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering CEng FIMechEIt - Mechanical Engineer (Chartered)
Simon is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He received his MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham in 2004.
Simon began his engineering career at Jaguar Land Rover as a mechanical development engineer within the powertrain department, working on petrol and diesel engine development programmes.
In 2007, Simon moved to Rolls-Royce where he was able to pursue his interest in engineering thermodynamics by becoming a gas turbine performance engineer. This included working on gas turbine projects for both naval and defence aerospace applications.
Following a move to Siemens Energy in 2015, Simon worked on gas turbine engines within the energy sector. He was promoted to Head of Performance for aero-derivative gas turbines and became a leading influence in the area of decarbonisation, having patented an innovation in the operation of gas turbine engines running on hydrogen. After almost 7 years in this role, Simon decided to look for a new challenge and joined Hawkins in 2022 as a Forensic Investigator.
