Giving and Receiving Feedback - 31 January 2020 09.30-12.30
Giving & Receiving Feedback
Giving and receiving feedback is a real skill, which is not reserved just for managers, but can be used effectively what ever our role may be. When we mention the word feedback, people tend to assume that it has a negative meaning, however feedback is one of the most positive and powerful skills……. if it is used correctly. It is also important that we encourage the receipt of feedback, in order to develop our skills and ourselves.
This half-day session considers both the challenges and benefits of feedback. It focuses on developing your skills and confidence in giving feedback as well as actions to encourage others to give feedback to you. The session concludes with the opportunity to practice feedback in small groups thereby sharing best practice and learning from others.
The style of the session will be interactive, activity based and practical with the emphasis on being able to apply the skills immediately in the workplace, and potentially in situations outside of work. There is a small amount of pre-work to complete to help you to get the most from the day.
Prior to attending please give some thought to the following:
- Areas/opportunities where you could use feedback in the workplace
- Situations where you would like to be more confident in giving feedback.
Objectives
By the end of the programme you will be able to:
- State the role and the expectations around giving and receiving feedback
- Manage the potential barriers and pitfalls
- State the key areas of preparation around feedback
- Challenge potential comfort zones
- Use the techniques for giving effective feedback
- Manage reactions from ourselves and others
- Use the learning from the practice session to continue to develop feedback skills
